The butterflies and flower of this card are created using a “wet on wet” watercolor technique. This technique starts with embossing an image on watercolor paper, in this case the butterflies and flowers. After wetting the embossed image, Altenew ink is picked up with a wet paint brush and touched to the part of the stamped image where you want the most concentration of that color. The wet on wet helps the color spread onto the image. The embossing helps to keep the ink within the image. For the butterflies, I used Altenew re-inkers Citrus Burst and Fire Brick. The body of the butterfly is Silver Stone. The flower is Lemon Fresh and Honey Drizzle with the stems being Forest Leaf. With watercoloring, if you get too much water or ink on an image you can carefully dab it off with a paper towel. You can also dry the images using your heat gun.

The card front is stamped in Altenew Sand Dunes Crisp Dye Ink. Once the flower and butterflies are dry, I hand cut them out and attached them to the card front with foam tape. I then attached this paned to a piece of yellow card stock. The sentiment is stamped in Altenew Jet Black ink, attached to yellow card stock, and attached to the card panel front with foam tape. The front panel is attached to the card base with foam tape. Rhinestone embellishments are attached and the card is complete.

I hope this encourages you to get your water based re-inkers out and play with some watercoloring. Thanks for visiting…
